Fwd: Saturday May 7.2011
Today was a day of not a little work. I enjoy being outside and using the muscles (few as there may be on me) and joints of my body. As a banker I can tend to take my body for granted. I sit in a chair in an office and, when I'm feeling terrifically in need of some exercise I'll walk to the printer and pick up everything that I've been printing for the last hour. So it came as no small pain to my body to spend and hour rototilling and another two mowing my yard with a mower that you have to push yourself. It didn't help that I accidentally set my hand on the carburetor after I finished rototilling, nor that it began raining in the midst of my efforts to mow. It was all done in sight of the greater good though—to glory in the wonder of our bodies. I sometimes wonder how much time our animal friends spend musing on the wonders of their bodies and abilities. As humans we sound an awful lot of time thinking about the abilities of animals and how we wish we could fly or dive to the ocean's depths. So every now and again the flying squirrel must pause—mid flight—and realize how awesome it all is.
So a morning of service rototilling and chaining tree roots and dragging them out with a truck. An afternoon of nap times and lawn mowing and hanging out with Lindsay.
Tonight we took the 50 mile roundtrip into town to go grocery shopping. We packed along dinner too and after purchasing Nolan's first ever bike (hot wheels with a pretend engine rev-er that really makes revving noises) and before buying all of our perishable groceries that would most definitely have perished in our finally arrived spring/summer weather, we spent some time at the park. It was a gorgeous time. I love this country and God's creations hereupon.
